This week has been a long one, and I find myself, nearing its end, and exhausted. I am going to recharge this evening and hope, with my husband's help, to do some major "losing" this weekend. I do have one thing for today's list . . .
"Lose It!"
* The Real Housewives on Bravo. I was nursing Little Bit and watching Jeana, Vicky, Tamra, et. al, as they try on hats, talk about themselves, and gossip/backstab each other like high school students. I thought to myself, "I am feeling uncomfortable" and then feeling anxious and super uncomfortable as Bravo gave glimpses of upcoming scenes and episodes. Then, I thought, "I don't need this shit." Then, I deleted all The Real Housewives timers on my DVR. So, I've lost some mental clutter and gained a bit of time . . . time that can be spent losing or using the other stuff crowding my life.
And now, friends, I want to hear from you. Stand proud and share your progress . . . what did you use or lose this week? Please share in the comments. Thank you all for the support this debut week of Just Use It or Lose It.

I realize most of the world's music is one their IPod. I seem to be unable to break the CD habit when in the parlor. I organized 58 CD's in an organizer with a numerical spread sheet. By doing this I lost 58 CD cases. Baby steps, baby steps. (I did keep the paper from the back so I know the order of songs), m
With a big move coming up soon I've managed to lose lots of things recently. Mainly clothing that rarely gets worn or doesn't fit. However, I'm extra proud that I finally lost the comforter that was on my bed in college. I'm not sure why I was holding onto it. I've realized though that I have a hard time letting go of items that are from the "glory days". ND t-shirts and glasses are plentiful around here....am I somehow clinging to my youth through these items?
I finally sent the two full trash bags full of discarded clothes that have been sitting in my bedroom for six months off with the Vietnam Vets truck this week.
Also, I threw out a mostly full box of Busken cookies (shaped like Christmas trees). J. bought these when we were on a whole family grocery trip and there weren't any free cookies out on display. Rather than ask for some more, he opened up one of these boxes, gave O one, and put the rest in the cart. I love Busken too, but at 7 dollars a box, and usually past their prime when you buy them, I can't justify it. Kept them around because I felt guilty anyway, but on Tuesday, they hit the trash.
I felt the exact same way about this episode of the Housewives, and up until now, I hate to admit, I even enjoyed that show. But after that episode, I thought to myself, I am not going to watch this any more. The women have become heinously despicable.
i tossed a pair of socks that i considered some very-serious-winter-socks until i put them on yesterday and realized they had holes in both heels. my sweetie seems to prefer holes in his socks, and will NOT throw away socks with holes, even though he gets a stack of new ones every other christmas.
anyway, inspired by your work, i didn't hesitate a moment before putting mine in the trash. they weren't cute enough to allow me to talk myself into keeping them with the intention of one day making sock puppets out of them for cosmo, or keeping them around for HIM to make some puppets when he's old enough. the truth is, there will be A LOT more socks between now and then. when he wants sock puppets, we will find some socks. i'm sure of it.
The weekend following Christmas I parted ways with several Christmas decorations from me and hubby's pasts. These include clothespin reindeer I made in the 2nd grade and cross stitch pictures knitted by mil.
We have gathered a large black trash bag of men's clothing to take to goodwill.
I emptied the pantry of all expired cans - there were many. I also went through my spice drawer and threw away at least 30 spice containers (expiration dates going back as far as 2001).
I threw away at least 30 parts to various breast pumps collected over the last 2 babies. In addition, I tossed bottle nipples that I decided would be too gross to use on possible baby #3.
I tearfully parted with several artistic masterpieces created by my 2 year old - I decided there would be many more to come and perhaps I should only save 1 masterpiece/month at maximum. :-)
Similar to your Real Housewives, my husband and I made the decision to delete the 12 unwatched episodes of Heroes, Season 3, taking up space on our DVR.
Finally, I don't know if this counts but we sent re-usable baby clothing and linens, bouncy seat & car seat to Maryland with the grandparents on the off-chance we have a #3. Should there be no #3 all items will be donated to a good cause.
This week: I plan to raid my upstairs closets -- wish me luck!
