Bunch of tossers?

"Lose It!"
* large red plastic tumbler-type glass with crack on side -- seems an obvious candidate, but has taken up valuable shelf space for years now where we weren't using it because, you know, it was cracked . . . it's still cracked but now it's in the trash

Obviously, I'm losing a little steam or, more accurately, shying away from "losing" things that are more difficult to let go of . . .

I'm pretty close to losing all my VHS tapes, but have been wondering whether or not they are good items for donation or not. I worry that Salvation Army and Goodwill personnel everywhere are tired of tossing other people's donated copies of Weekend at Bernie's and Mannequin.*

I'm also considering losing the response cards to our wedding. What do you think?

I'm counting on you all to help me out. What kinds of things should I put to the lose it/use it test? What are you losing of late?

*I do not own either of these movies.

I have not seen your house, but with all you have lost recently you should have at least a closet that is empty now...
I think you should take a minute to celebrate what you hove "lost" and go buy yourself something (just kidding!) but that is what I would probably do...
I think you should hold onto the VHS tapes...well at least the movies you REALLY love, but get rid of the rest.
Wedding response cards, I hope they are already in the trash! How long have you been married? Have you ever looked through them? (mine may still be in a "wedding" box in the basement(, but this is about you :)
Have you gone through your clothes? I just lost 20 sweaters (to Goodwill) yesterday - some I am sure were purchased in the early to mid 90s. I also lost a strnd of outdoor lights (lanterns to be exact) from the 70s that my Gpa had given me last year for our porch. Husband actually lost those, but asked first and I was glad to see them go!
I also went through a bath closet and lost 7-10 bottles of hand sanitizer that had expried in 06, not as much of a germ phobe as I thought I'd be - more good news!
Maybe some of these ideas will inspire you, maybe not, but my house is less cluttered :)
Also, here is another idea...I have spent a lot of time organizing other things while going through my junk, making it more accessible to me so I can actually USE it. Liz

I am not a scrapbooker by any means, nor am I somebody with tons of time and patience, but I did not want to get rid of my wedding RSVP cards, either. So, this past summer, I put them in a "scrapbook" and I matched the RSVP of the person, with the card they got us, and a picture of them. I look at it often.
Many people wrote notes on the cards, so I am glad I kept them. This was also my guestbook, because I had bridesmaids take pictures of everybody as they came in, and sign a little card like a guest book. I put those on the page as well. It sounds detailed, but really, it required little skill. The most time was matching the things up.

Oooh, fun background! A year or so ago we got rid of all of our VHS tapes. Between my husband and I, we had hundreds. I was sad, because there were lots of favorites in there but we don't even have a VCR hooked up anywhere. I'm not sure what we wound up doing with them. I think they went to Goodwill. I'm still kind of sad about that. But hopefully my beloved copy of Spaceballs went to a good home.

Response cards to weddings are difficult to pitch, but thinking about it, I can't tell you their actual location in my house.

I can't deal with the VHS tapes~ particularly since virtually every one remindes me of high school and college. Instead of pitching those, I made my hubby load all of our music on the i-pod (with appropriate hard drive back ups) and we sold about 80% of our cd collection.

I've thought about getting a VHS to digital converter. As long as I could access "Bed of Roses" or "The Big Chill" anytime I wanted, I would be content.
